With time to spare

Sorry I’ve been MIA the last few months….time has just flown by.

The girls Marius dresses have been finished a few weeks now. They just need a round with an iron to flatten out here and there.

As mentioned in this post, it is a Marius pattern vest that I modified into a dress. I made it longer than the orginal vest and added a border to the bottom. Initially I made them so the girls would have matching dresses for their kindergarten pictures, which is in the Spring. I have yet to receive information about a photo scheduel. so how long can I hold off these dresses until the girls want to use them? With my luck, if I let them use them they’ll eat blueberries or something that make stains that are impossible to get out.

For these dresses I used Drops Baby Merino yarn. This yarn is so nice to knit with. Recommend this yarn if you are knitting patterns with different colors.

SweetieS choose the color “lilla orkide” (mix 39) as her main color, while SweetieL choose “turkis” (Uni color 32). For the Marius pattern I used “hvit” (Uni color 01). For the collar I used “rosa” (uni color 07). In both dresses I used 4 skeins of the mail color and 1 of each the white and pink..

An ice cold front has hit Norway the last week, so it’s been good knitting on a baby blanket I’m gifting my sister when her new baby comes…

Busy bee

First of all Happy Chinese New Year to all my readers in “Bloglandia”. Or Gong Xi Fa Chai for those whom understand Chinese. In the lack of massive amounts of energy, this year we opted for just cleaning house and not decorating for the Chinese New Year as we have done earlier years. Out new year dinner was as tradition entales, steamboat. Yummy!

The year of the Monkey ended with bumps and scratches for all the girls in CasaR. The last day of the year was a cold one and resulted in icy streets and super slippery. If you happened to be in our neighborhood Friday afternoon, you would have seen the three of us scattered over the sidewalk as we all slipped on the icy sidewalks. To this day, my” mummy heart” still hurts a little when seen SweetieLs face…Hopefully the year of the Rooster will be better…

This weekend I did some repair work on SweetieS winter coveralls. Just before the weekend I saw that the seam had started to fall apart. Rather than wasting a perfectly usable coverall, I looked into how to patch it up.

So Saturday I took a trip to my local fabric store Stoff og Stil and looked for fabrics I could use. My requirements for the fabric were “simple”, it had to be durable and semi-waterproof. I found some waxed (I think it’s waxed) and a cool Paw Patrol fabric. SweetieS was superhappy with the result. Now to see how it holds up with the daily wear and tear SweetieS puts it to…

I also finally finished my second Skappelgenser. Well this one has a twist to the original pattern. I had knitted it one size too small. Rather than starting over I added cables on the sides. This sweater is knitted with Drops Big Delight in the color Rosehage (01) and Drops Brushed Alpaca Silke Lys beige (04) on 7mm needles. For this project I used about 7 skeins of each.

Now of to play with my latest toy, the Gyro-cutter. I bought this cutter iwth plans to kiss cut stickers for my planner. So far my first impression is that it works great. I bought mine of Ebay, from this seller.

With my best friend Hoaneypoos announcement of a new family addition I have started planning my next knitting project.

I was looking at past baby gifts and came over a dress I had knitted for baby Tilde earlier this year that I see now that I postponed posting about, and than consequently forgot...

A knitted dress

I finished this dress for BabyL a while back, but haven’t had time to do much blogging lately. But today I finally have some me time and I’m not tired/exhausted/procrastinating…not a bad day today…

No further ado…here is the dress!

The dress is inspired by this pattern by Vikinggarn (in catalog 1305)

As my sweet mother-in-law is knitting a patterned dress for BabyL, I thought I would make a simple one- this being my first knitted dress and my first knitted garment with a zipper. The dress is knitted in some leftover yarn (Ullteppegarn by Gjestedal) I had from a baby blanket for SweetieS (read about that blanket here).

The dress didn’t turn out as I had planned though. I had put in a zipper that was a few centimeters too short, thus improvising with a flap at the top of the dress. I also wanted this to be a unique dress for BabyL like SweetieS had – a “Team 2012” overall- so I added some 2014 details, 2014 elbow patches.  The hearts I made following this  pattern by Creating Laura and sewed on the numbers.

With one knitting project finished I’m off to start another one….this time a Christmas gift for a little sweetie. Hopefully I will finish in time.

Too slow

A while back I posted about my little Valentine dress. Well I finished it this weekend…and me being such a slow knitter resulted in a dress that is ALITTLE too tight. Maybe BabyS will have time to wear it once before outgrowing it.

Aiming for a six month size was too optimistic. Maybe I will give this dress a new try – just have to adjust my self made pattern…this time aiming for a size at least 6 month bigger than BabyS is now…

A surprise for little, ol’ me

DaddyOs granny visited from Ørsta last weekend, and brought me a little surprise…A while back I posted about wanting a Marius patterned dress. Well when we visited Ørsta I had put in an order with Granny about knitting me one. Thanks to Der solen alltid skinner for the knitting pattern.

While Granny was here in Oslo she brought me the finished dresses, yes plural. Both MommyS and BabyS got a dress each! What can I say, I’m spoiled with having a great extended family. Thank you Granny!

My little Valentine dress

I fell totally in love with this Valentine top by Stinemor, I love the wavy style. How cute wouldn’t a dress be for BabyS? Well I searched high and low after a knitting pattern I could follow, with no luck. So I thought I would try taking elements from several patterns I came across and put together my own pattern.

With BabyS slowly establishing a sleep pattern that means she sleeps from about 6 o’clock in the evening to about 9 in the morning – only waking for feedings – I suddenly have my evenings back! And I have had time to do some knitting! Yay! Hopefully I can finish this dress before she grows out the size I’m aiming for…

Now if I only I was a knitting machine…I could start and finish all the other projects I have in my head.

A little dress for a little girl

I finally finished my first knitted garment…a little dress for BabyS.

I fell totally in love with these two little dresses by Pickles

Well looking at the knitting patterns I realized that “dress 1” was too difficult for this inexperienced knitter. Well “dress 2” is knitted with a more coarse yarn than I wanted to knit with. In conclusion, I wanted to knit a dress that had elements from both. With both patterns at hand I started…hoping for the best.

While I was knitting the dress I got even more inspired when I came across this blog post. Why not add something extra?? Adding “a little heart” can’t be that difficult…

A few things I learned during this project:
- Always jot down how far you’ve come – you never know when BabyS suddenly will require all your attention
- Don’t knit in poor lighting – chances of knitting something wrong is way bigger

I grabbed the chance to do some surfing, with hands free while Baby S is playing around with her daddy.

Catching up on the blogs I usually follow, I came over the Marius dress… It’s a knitted dress with a specific pattern. At this point I wish I was better at knitting…

Found these knitting patterns @Garnstudio, kinda in the same style….just doesn’t have the same neckline. But after reading the pattern I have to admit it’s above me….for now….

maybe one day in the future I will be able to make something like this…
