Hopefully no more slipping

A few months ago I got myself a real scare when I suddenly slipped on one of the steps in our stair case. Then and there I decided that I would mount anti slip tape on each step. The only challenge was to get a hold of transparent anti slip tape here in Norway. I looked far and wide with no luck…after finding and not being able to get it shipped to Norway I gave up looking for transparent tape.
I got a hold of some black anti slip tape…but just wouldn’t get myself to mount it. It would just show too much on our pine colored stairs.
But to my surprise I came over transparent anti slip tape @Biltema while looking for something else! Yay, I quickly bought myself 5 rolls…they came in 3 meter rolls. Today I gave the staircase a once over with soap and water before adhering the tape.

Now I ‘m hoping for days ahead with no slipping…

Stair case - Stage 1: complete

With an in-house baby time sure flies.

We finished with the first stage of the stair case renovation before Sophie arrived, but I haven’t had time to post about the finished result. Well here’s a little post and some pictures.

As I posted when I started thinking about the renovation of the stair case (read previous post here), the banister was gonna be painted white and the steps stained in a dark wood finish. After we started sanding and painting  I realized it was more work than we had time for. So we spilt up the renovation in two stages…Stage 1: the banister, and Stage 2: the steps.

I did a little post during the renovation (read it here) showing the progress.

Well here are a few pictures with Stage 1 completed…

Don’t know when we will start on Stage 2. But for now we will enjoy the fact that Stage 1 is completed and baby Sophie enriching our lives.

One small step …

One giant step for our staircase…

For some reason I got the idea in my head that we should start on the staircase. I’ve decided on white banister and stained steps. Like I posted as an option in my previous staircase post. Still not sure if we will be closing the staircase though…

And with almost a week off from work due to Easter, we started on the huge task of the top of the staircase…After several days of sanding and painting I realize that it’s gonna take more than a week to finish. Baby steps…and eventually we WILL finish.

My next project on the house: Painting the staircase?

Ever since we moved in to our house I’ve wanted to paint our staircase. Mostly because the whole pine look just isn’t for me. Besides after we laid the wood flooring in Merbau, it just didn’t look right.
As the renovation of rooms left are coming to an end, the staircase is approaching fast. I knew I wanted to paint the staircase white, but not sure about the whole case in white or just parts of it. Not to mention which shade of white. There’s like over 100 shades of white!!!
I started going online and looking at pictures of others who have painted the staircase and what shade people recommended.

Some ideas on the style I’m considering:

Our staircase is not a closed one…but you get the idea.

(We are also considering closing the staircase while repainting. But are we taking on more than we can handle???)

Or completely white???

I’m leaning towards this combination…white banister and stained steps

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
